Hokkaido Ramen Santouka
An unsatisfying ramen experience after watching a movie about ramen one night led Hitoshi Hatanaka – the founder of the franchise – to concoct his own ramen recipe for the family; a simple decision that eventually led to outlets worldwide. By adopting the same recipe that won over his family, Hatanaka opened his first ramen shop at Asahikawa in March of 1988. Even though it only had nine seats and shio ramen on the menu, the combination of broth simmered for 20 hours in a blend of ingredients poured over delicate noodles and topped with flavourful char su began winning over the local’s taste buds . The outlet in Pavilion KL is one of 50 restaurants worldwide, and features traditional Japanese decor, a casual setup designed to put diners at ease while bowls of steaming ramen made by a chef from Japan with ingredients imported from Hokkaido make their way to cool marble-top tables.

The slices of the meat were braised in an aromatic shoyu sauce, lending a deep and earthy aroma to the meat. Tender and fairly moist, the meat had a texture equivalent to the tenderloin but had more flavors. – Feb 29, 2012
