Pao Xiang Bak Kut Teh

The origin of the restaurant could be traced to a man named Qingzong Wu, whose love of bak kut teh increased when a man named Dr. Chen informed him of the origins of “bak kut teh”. Intrigued by the story, Wu started to cook the dish on occasions, but it wasn’t until he met an old man that taught him the techniques required to cook a tasty pot of bak kut teh did he consider opening a restaurant of his own. Giving up his chicken rice restaurant, Wu rented a small booth at a restaurant in Klang and named it Pao Xiang Bak Kut Teh. Quickly enough, with a group of loyal customers, Wu earned enough revenue to rent the whole premise as well as setting up branches in shopping complexes. By sticking to traditions, the bak kut teh served by the restaurant is cooked by tying the meat with cotton strings to remove excessive oil and fat from the meat as well as keeping it still throughout the process. Combined with a mixture of a few Chinese herbs, a balanced flavour is attained in the soup and meat that satiate the taste buds of customers who consume it.
